Comforting things

Our Christmas: the in between

Our holidays this year feel like a marathon:tons of time with people, tons of company and constantly something on the go.  While I'm sure I'll be exhausted by the time back to school hits on Monday, I will most certainly also feel fulfilled and happy of all the time with the people in our life.
Here's a little look at what we've been doing in the in between time from Christmas until our second Christmas which falls this upcoming weekend with my family.

1)  We jetted off for a day in Winnipeg for our anniversary.  Well, it was the day after our anniversary but it was just as special.   We hopped on a  plane and left at 9 am and were home at 8 pm- that was one of the coolest experiences!  Our day plan was for me to chill with the kids and then when Dan was done his meetings, Josh was going to watch the kids so we could go to the spa.  But the spa was full so instead we explored downtown and saw the new Skip offices.

I had a great time shopping, playing laser tag and just adventuring in a new city with my munchkins.  They have been such great companions when we travel that I actually look forward to exploring with them.  Which sounds bad, but sometimes they can be brats too.  They just didn't choose to be turkeys that day.

Note to self: Lucia still doesn't enjoy laser tag- she hid in a corner and cried the whole time...

We brought Uncle Josh and Chris' girlfriend, Leah home with us.  It was my first time meeting Leah and let me just say it was love at first sight.  She is a beauty and has the kindest heart.  You know that feeling when you feel like you've known someone all your life? That's how it felt spending time with Leah.  I look forward to many more wonderful memories.

2) The weather has been frigid (like an entire week of -45) so we've been stuck indoors and resorted to creative activities.  While the boys worked on Skip stuff, we baked buns, made crafts and then would have big workout parties, doing the Insanity videos.  I did adventure across the street to Candace's once, but my hair turned white.

3) We had a house full of Simairs for a record 9 days and I loved every minute of it.  We celebrated Christmas, then Denyse's birthday then New Years together.  Willis was on cloud nine the entire time, having uncles and aunts he could play Risk or Civilization with.  I was thrilled to get to spend more time with Nicole (Josh's girlfriend) who I already adore and of course to get to know Leah more.  We had Monique with us too and I have to say it was like the days of yore and I had one of the best holidays with her- so nice to see her smiling and enjoying life.  Plus she makes a killer gin and tonic, so that's a bonus.

4) We took in the Sound of Music on Tuesday- what a perfect musical to see during the holiday season and it was nice that Willis gave up his ticket so Nicole (a true Sound of Music affectionado) could go (actually, he watched the first ten minutes of the movie and said no way he was going)

Now we prepare for Christmas with my family and I look forward to many more giggles and wonderful memories to be created.  We're so happy to have Jen and Rob home!  To be continued....
