January Reads

by - January 31, 2018

January and February are major reading months for me, maybe even more so than in the summer.  Something about cozying up by the fire when it gets so dark so early that makes me want to read all the books.
And I almost did that this month.

Let me give you a run down and some recommends from what I covered- you can see all the books on GoodReads here:

1- Home for Christmas- this was just okay.  I picked it up because I saw that the author had many books and sometimes I like getting into an author and reading all their work. I found this one boring.  We'll see if I try another Holly Chamberlain book.

2- Lilac Girls- reminded me of the Nightingale and was heartbreaking.  I loved this book.

3- The Maze Runner- A student had recommended I read this years ago and I forgot.  I'm glad I picked this up because as you can see....I couldn't stop this series.  Next up are the movies.  This was a great read!

4- The Scorch Trials- Book 2 in the Maze Runner...obviously I couldn't stop at one.

5- The Death Cure- Book 3 was read promptly after book 2 and I really like how the author wrapped this series up.

6- Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine- This was my audiobook for the month and it was just okay.  I love how it ended but it took me a long time to get into it or to feel any love for the main character.  I did, however, love the narrator's Scottish accent.

7- A Wrinkle in Time- I bought this for Willis for Cmas but stole it to read.  While it had some good parts, I didn't love it...but I will go see the movie.  Also popcorn.

8- The Kill Order- The first prequel to the Maze Runner series.  I didn't like it and fast-forward read through it.  I'm hoping the last prequel will be better, I start it tonight.

Also I'm about half way done listening to Crazy Rich Asians...will review it next month.

If I were to recommend any of those books to you, I would definitely say the Maze Runner series if you want something to get you hooked or Lilac Girls if you want to cry your eyes out.

  1. Okay, did your blog design just change recently - or have I been totally oblivious when I have been on your site. Either way - I like it!
