Lessons on aging 5: on 38

Today is my actual birthday- I know I've been talking about it for a week, but forrealz today's the day.  I'm 38.

I don't have much to say, other than, when looking back on pictures while preparing for this post, I have come to realize that I'm getting better with age.  My personal style is defined, my skin is wrinkle-free, I am constantly learning and working on a better me.  I have a great marriage, fantastic kids and a wonderful net of support around me in my family and friends.

So bring on 38, in fact, bring on the almost 40s.  I'm going to rock this.  And on the days when I can't...there's always coffee and gangsta rap.

And as a treat, here are some look backs at my personal "style"...if you can call it that.

[caption id="attachment_9158" align="aligncenter" width="400"] The year we wore candy necklaces everywhere...[/caption]

Happy birthday beautiful babe! You are going to rock this. You are one amazing lady inside and out and I wish you nothing but a joyous day full of all the things you love and all the things that bring joy and happiness to your heart!

  6. Happy birthday!! You are going to rock 38!! Can I wear that t-shirt like every day?! It's the best!

    Pumps & Push-Ups

  7. I wished I knew the Deena who wore candy necklaces FOR AN ENTIRE YEAR.

  8. And p.s. I am jealous you are wrinkle free. That is not a descriptor I will be using on my 38th bday post! lol But. . . . I am okay with that too.

  9. Happy Birthday My Friend. Love your shirt and this bomber jacket. Loving that prom dress! Everybody had a windbreaker :)

  10. Happy birthday (yesterday). I am admire your confidence as you enter this new year, and you should be confident. I think we learn to appreciate the bigger, more meaningful pieces of our lives as we grow older, maybe slightly wiser, and we are less worried about fitting in or whatever. I am with Jordan, wrinkle free is not my face, or acne free, but that's life. Really enjoyed reading your posts on aging.

  11. That Deena danced on speakers to Britney.

  12. Thanks, friend. That's definitely the best part about aging- the reflective learning and appreciation!

  13. lol- I knew you are my style soul sister.

  14. Thanks! I may wear this shirt more than anything in my closet.

  15. Thank you, Jill!! I need your shoes.

  16. I've been loving all of the birthday posts this week! Hope you had a wonderful birthday. Love those cute throwback pictures too :)

  17. Happy birthday! It's been a fun way to look back and celebrate your birthday! :) I hope I can look back and say I'm happy with my personal style by my birthday, I think it's ever evolving. I'd love to have a sequin maxi dress as pretty as yours! May pull off your fun tee better though, haha.

Hope you are having a great week and have a wonderful weekend ahead of you :)

  18. I think everyone had one of those big puffy sports jacket at one point in life. I know I had at least one, maybe 2 :) And it most certainly was 2 sizes too big.

  19. Ummm...I thought that was Lucia as well. Unbelievable! Great post!

  20. Happy belated birthday! Ditto on the thinking it was Lucia! You ARE rockin' it!!

Sunshine inspired fashion

Today I'm showing you the first outfit I got on my trip to Scotland/England and it just happens to be in one of my favourite colours....yes, yellow.  I also put together some of my fave yellow picks on the interwebs for you in the above link.

I have posted a few of my fave yellow pieces before like the one with the blazer  or the one with the yellow shoes and jacket and then there is also this bag that I got in Vegas last year that always makes me swoon....

Anyway, I'm's outfit is a dress, but you'll have to hop over to the Blended Blog to see it.'s sneak peak.

A blogger meet up in Toronto

It was like a weekend long blind date...... e-Harmony but for friends..... Possibly one of the craziest things I've done..... But I spent the weekend with 10 other women whom I met online. Well, except for my real life bestie on the far right. We have a group of 14 bloggers who have been collabing since the spring of 2014 and what first was simple blog fun has quickly become a sisterhood.   Last year we met in Vegas, this year we settled for Toronto and had 11 members.
Trip highlights include a bus trip with wine and Niagara Falls, a walking tour of downtown Toronto, plenty of great meals, a shopping adventure and rooftop hot tubs at night.  I could go into the details, but for me, the actual trip to Toronto wasn't why I went...the Jays weren't even playing. What brings me the most joy about this trip is the fact that women from all walks of life, all ages (we had 30, 40 and 50 somethings) with a gamut of different interests took a leap of faith and traveled to meet women…

London 1

Sunday/Monday was a blur.   It went from cruising around Toronto (that means shopping) with the little group of Blended Bloggers that were left over to heading to the airport to meet Dan and the kids then to an overnight flight to Dublin and then another 2ish hour flight to London.  At least the kids slept an hour or two, but I couldn't do it.   Currently in zombie mode.   When we got to our hotel (MalMaison Charterhouse Square) we had to nap. Well I had to anyway before I started losing it.   After an hour long family nap, Dan headed to work and I decided to take the kids out on an adventure in the neighbourhood.  We're only 850 metres from St. Paul's Cathedral and I hadn't visited it last time I was here so it was an easy pick. First I had to devise a plan to keep them engaged and because Pokemon is all they ever want, it was an easy bait.  The deal was that if they came and learned something with me, they got to have some Pokemon time in the area. It worked like a …
