I spent all my posts last week talking about my friends, how I see myself and the little lessons I have picked up along the way. I would be amiss if I didn't mention how reaching out and expanding my horizons has introduced me to many wonderful new adventures and thusly am making this my "Little Miracles" themed post for the blog hop on The Blended Blog.
When I start this blog on April 16th, 2009 I only had the intention of sharing the daily going-ons of my life with my family. And in saying that I realize I completely forgot to celebrate my blogiversary of 8 years. Le oops. In 2014 my eyes were opened to the world that exists in blogland and I joined a style challenge. Through that challenge and subsequent others I started to belong to a community of like-minded women who also blogged who quickly became my friends. Dan and I took a major leap of faith and even travelled down to San Antonio to meet Carrie, her husband, Lana and her husband for a weekend away. As awkward as a weekend like that could be, it was easy to be around these women and their husbands.
Nearly a year later our growing group of friends met up in Las Vegas for a bloggers' conference and the friendships were cemented. I am so grateful that I decided that I wasn't too old to make new friends and that I took a risk to meet up with women that I would never had otherwise known had it not been for this blog. I love my blogfriends.
That weekend was a exactly a year ago and when I spent some time looking at the pictures of these women last week, it made me pause for a moment in gratitude and kinda in sheer amazement that without having really "met" each other we were still able to form solid friendships. I wouldn't hesitate to go visit these women, in fact I spent a weekend in November at Lana's in Seattle. These ladies relate to me in a way that most of my "real life" friends can't. Except for Christy, Jordan and Abbie who are also a part of that bloggroup of friends who blog. It's wonderful making friends with women who share the same passions, who aspire to better themselves, who seek out similar adventures as me and understand the crazy life that blogging is.
In exactly one month, I'll be setting off on another adventure with them as we take over Toronto. Sarah, Lana, Lisa, Alison, Katie, Andrea, Whitney, Nicole, Shaunacey, Christy and myself will gather and over many glasses of wine, beer and vats of poutine, we will again strengthen that friendship. Sure, we will talk blogging but as most of us haven't met, we will also just be a community of women, gathered together with shared common interests, adventuring together and being grateful to have reached out to form those relationships. Some of these ladies haven't even been to Canada before so we will definitely be showing off our beautiful country.
And I can't wait to share that adventure with you guys.

ReplyDeleteThis just inspired me to maybe attend a few blog events. I'm such an introvert but this really shows you never know what amazing friendships you will meet in this great blog community.

Las Vegas for a blogging conference totally sounds like the best idea ever. I have always wanted to go to one of those, but I know it would be SO much more fun with friends. I am so happy that y'all got to make that happen. And YAY for blogs being back. I hope that was resolved as painlessly as possible.
ReplyDeleteBlogging is the best for making friends who have similar interests - no matter the distance! It's great you are all able to catch up in real life too so it's not just a computer screen :)
ReplyDeleteHappy blogaversary as well, 8 years is a massive milestone! :)

Happy Blogiversary Deena!!! 8 years is a long time. I bet your blog has evolved since you first started it. I met one of my favorite bloggers in LA a few months ago and it was so much fun hanging out and getting to know her on a personal level. I truly cherish the friendships that have formed. You are never too old to make new friends.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of the best parts about blogging - being able to meet like-minded people and building friendships with them!
