January numbers

Welcome to my month review using uniquement les numéros.  And random french words apparently.

In January......

0- trips to Walmart.  Because I despise that place.  Instead, I have ordered anything I needed on Amazon.  Purchased: Ninja coffee maker, printer ink and a veggie spiraller.  Actually on that note, I have Willis and Lucia take turns planning our fancy Sunday family meal.  I set out a couple cookbooks, they leaf through and pick out a main, a salad and a starch. Oh, and dessert.  What fun we have had. That's where the spiraller comes in- I made zoodles to go with the pasta sauce Lucia requested and it was a huge hit with the kids.

1041$ on groceries. Dammit. I thought I was doing super good. Must improve for February.  How am I possibly spending that much on groceries when we're also spending 450$ on restaurants. GEEEEEZ.

925$ on clothing for me. Shite.  I bought a sweater at Lululemon, 1 hobo wallet, a pair of jeans, a Vince top & a pair of Sorels.

I bought 1 book for 10.49$. Nope, I lied, I also bought the Little Paris BookShop for 25$.  I have now requested a bunch a books on Overdrive but I'm so not patient.  Did I mention we're running a virtual book and have 30 some ladies signed up from all over Canada and the US? We have super laid back chats and don't have to leave the house. Or put on a bra for that matter.  You should join too (here).

0$ on makeup! Yay!  I don't see any big makeup purchases coming in February either, just possibly moisturizer.  Because winter makes my face chip off but also because I had laser eye surgery this past weekend and won't be wearing any makeup for a bit.

225$ on gas.  Not bad! Big improvement since we got rid of the truck and switched to le Mazda.

I made 150$ on the blog in january!

3 trips booked (Winnipeg, Toronto and Scotland)...can't wait to see people in places!

1 Brunch date with my besties- this is a tradition I hope to continue- it was nice to sneak away from the family in the morning and start the day with coffee and girl talk.

3 "knowledge transfers" with teacher friends-  I loved giving away my binders this month!

1 great goodbye meal with my work peeps

My January goal was organization- I made 1 big list that covered each room in the house and what it needed repaired or purchased or created.  I plan on attacking my house room by room like a DIY ninja until I get everything done.

The goal for Feb is Fitness and I got a running start (ha- I'm punny) on this one because....I worked out 18 days in January.  Which makes me think I should have done more but nonetheless I am just happy that I did some and that I'm feeling strong.

1 track meet, which was actually a first for us.  Loved watching Willis run.

3 birthdays celebrated: my mom, our Jen and the Jamison.

We made my mom a really cool present- we ordered an antique library cataloguer thingy and then Kyla made inserts so she can keep track of all her classics.

And that was January for you! Link up your numbers post!

  4. 18 days is pretty good if you ask me!!! And so glad I am not the only one with really big food bills. Woo hoo to $150 on the blog!!! So how long with no make up after surgery?

  5. We use dollars, but they are colourful and plastic and you should come here- things would be cheap because my 150$ is like 115$ for you guys.

  6. Ugh..2 more days without eye makeup...I HATE IT...the lack of makeup- not the eye surgery though, that has been great.

  7. Exactly...that's how I'm justifying my pricey clothing this month- I made money and I 'won' splurge.

  10. I never buy clothes for myself unless we are going on vacation. So I make sure we go take one at least 2-3 times a year so I can get some new clothing.

  11. Ooh! A Lululemon sweater! Jealous! I can barely afford a headband from there! Haha.

  12. I'm afraid to even add up what we spend per month on food. George refuses to go to Walmart, ever. I don't think I've ever made any money on my blog - I need to figure that out. LOVE the gift for your mom. And I really like your idea of one big list for the house - except mine would be very long.

  18. Thanks for stopping by- it was....interesting? Thankfully it didn't take long so I didn't have too much time to think. The recovery was nothing, which was a nice bonus.

  21. Hi Deena, I came across this link up after reading Stephanie's post on her month in January. I absolutely love the concept--what a clever idea! I have already started counting and plan to link up in March. Thanks for the inspiration! p.s. I'm an empty nester so the comparison will be fun ;)

  22. Woot on the blogging income! Yikes on the food and clothing! We might be close on the food but definitely not on the clothing! I felt bad for spending $160!

  23. Love that you shared these numbers about $$$$!!! We spent $609 on groceries. I do shop at Walmart, but typically only online. I don't like their fresh stuff and I hate their lineups. We $129 on eating out (would have been more but a dear friend brought me lunch). I also spent $0 on make-up, but you will be thrilled to hear I have already spent $10 on lip gloss in February! LOL LOVE that Lululemon top! Amazing you made so much on your blog. Super proud of you.

  24. I love the idea of having your children pick out the meal! My daughter loves to help in the kitchen anyway so she would have so much fun with that! After she's helped me make something she always asks people if they can taste the love she put in!

  25. I just got the spiraling thingy myself. Such a fun gadget :) You're brave sharing your numbers, but I guess it kind of keeps you in check. I don't like Walmart either, but started warming up to Aldis. That lulu top is cute!

  26. Loving your cozy reading corner!
Food is SO expensive! I love when I go to the grocery store and drop like $100 then I'm so worn out from whatever and find myself dropping $50 on dinner... it's like... so glad I went to the grocery store... doesn't make sense! And totally feel ya! LOL!

  34. I really enjoyed reading this- what a great way to recap and sum up a month! It always stuns me how much we can spend on food!

  36. Wow, really like the addition of the budget numbers. We are tightening our collective budget belts over here. I was shocked at how much we spend (spent-trying to do better now) on movies, and dinners out that were nothing but fast food junk. Love the card catalog drawer you gifted your mom.

  37. I went there last week and didn't buy anything..can"t handle that place.

  38. I figured the librarian in you would!

  39. I definitely will next week- it was way easier than I thought it would be.
