A Canadian Girls' Guide to Enjoying the Weather

We are having the weirdest winter in Saskatchewan.  One week it's so cold out that you can't enjoy the snow...-50 in a wind chill is a bit excessive for cross-country skiing if you ask me.  And then the next week it's +5 and the rinks are melting.

You just can't win.

So instead you gather a gaggle of your favourite girlfriends and you go for a leisurely walk along the riverbank.  You wish you would have brought your skates because there is skating and music on the outdoor rink and everybody is having a lovey time, enjoying the weather.  Isn't it amazing how a slight (okay, huge in our case) swing in the temperature can up your mood?

A stroll on the banks of the river Saskatchewan necessitates a nice warm beverage after, so we headed over to the Living Sky Café in the old Mendel building and chitchatted over fancy coffees and spinach and artichoke dip.

Nothing beats a sunny afternoon spent with friends.  Actually, I lied, wearing a sweater and turtleneck sans jacket in the middle of winter is just as good if not better.   Because if you're like me, you spend most of your drives to work fantasizing about sitting in the car without the bulk of a parka making you sweat all your makeup off.

But it's also nice to swap out your mukluks for something more transitional, like maybe your new Sorel wedges that are waterproof and comfortable as .........any other pair of boots?   Yup, I wore those on our leisurely walk and didn't complain because they were so comfy.  I paired them with my Wunder Under Mesh Hi-Rise Lulus.  I have to work really hard not to wear these every day.

How do you enjoy a sudden burst of warmer weather in the middle of winter?

Strange winter that it is in Saskatchewan, I'll take it,  mood and temperature swings and all.  Because really, I could do without the consecutive weeks of -02020403985787.  The end.

You're a Winter Babe-a-licious!!!! Get your hike on, then curl up your cuteness with a warm cup of goodness sans coats. Sounds perfect!! I wish Winter would just stay winter. Our burst of warmness, be it a plenty this weird season, have everyone sick from the germs spread and my wardrobe in a tizzy. I'm gonna go drink Baileys and forget about it, lol.

  3. When I lived in Iowa and we had temps like that it wasn't enjoyable BUT life went on. We still had to function and so you inspire me. I can now barely function when the temps are below 50 degrees above zero!

  9. I think everybody has had really up and down crazy weather this winter. it's pretty common here, but this year has just been bonkers. We've had tons of days where it's been near 80 and then we had a couple of days where it was in the teens. So weird. And BTW, I don't think I could hang in Canada. I wouldn't even know what to do with that kind of cold! haha.

  15. Every time I see photos of a Canadian blogger, there is at least 6 inches of snow in their area. I think you are surviving your bad Canadian Winter in style, Deena. You look like a cozy bunny in this outfit. Love the beanie and sweatshirt. =)

  17. Oh, the black sheep sweater. I love it. Remember it from winters past. So cute. Hasn't this been the darnedest winter? 85 here yesterday and snow predicted for tomorrow. Making a snowman is on my winter bucket list so I am holding out hope for snow. Have a wonderful time in England.

Sunshine inspired fashion

Today I'm showing you the first outfit I got on my trip to Scotland/England and it just happens to be in one of my favourite colours....yes, yellow.  I also put together some of my fave yellow picks on the interwebs for you in the above link.

I have posted a few of my fave yellow pieces before like the one with the blazer  or the one with the yellow shoes and jacket and then there is also this bag that I got in Vegas last year that always makes me swoon....

Anyway, I'm rambling....today's outfit is a dress, but you'll have to hop over to the Blended Blog to see it. Muahahahahha...here's sneak peak.

A blogger meet up in Toronto

It was like a weekend long blind date...... e-Harmony but for friends..... Possibly one of the craziest things I've done..... But I spent the weekend with 10 other women whom I met online. Well, except for my real life bestie on the far right. We have a group of 14 bloggers who have been collabing since the spring of 2014 and what first was simple blog fun has quickly become a sisterhood.   Last year we met in Vegas, this year we settled for Toronto and had 11 members.
Trip highlights include a bus trip with wine and Niagara Falls, a walking tour of downtown Toronto, plenty of great meals, a shopping adventure and rooftop hot tubs at night.  I could go into the details, but for me, the actual trip to Toronto wasn't why I went...the Jays weren't even playing. What brings me the most joy about this trip is the fact that women from all walks of life, all ages (we had 30, 40 and 50 somethings) with a gamut of different interests took a leap of faith and traveled to meet women…

London 1

Sunday/Monday was a blur.   It went from cruising around Toronto (that means shopping) with the little group of Blended Bloggers that were left over to heading to the airport to meet Dan and the kids then to an overnight flight to Dublin and then another 2ish hour flight to London.  At least the kids slept an hour or two, but I couldn't do it.   Currently in zombie mode.   When we got to our hotel (MalMaison Charterhouse Square) we had to nap. Well I had to anyway before I started losing it.   After an hour long family nap, Dan headed to work and I decided to take the kids out on an adventure in the neighbourhood.  We're only 850 metres from St. Paul's Cathedral and I hadn't visited it last time I was here so it was an easy pick. First I had to devise a plan to keep them engaged and because Pokemon is all they ever want, it was an easy bait.  The deal was that if they came and learned something with me, they got to have some Pokemon time in the area. It worked like a …
