Joining my blogging friends in a little hop today as we discuss what we do to take care of ourselves, which I think is probably one of the most important things that we can do. I know I'm a better mom if I put aside some time for me. I actually have a schedule- Sunday nights I take 30-60 mins for skin care/hair. Once a week I have a nice bubble bath. I work out 3-5 times a week and blog daily. Here's a list of some options that I make sure to incorporate into my weeks:
Now head over to the lovely Shaunacey's blog to see what this busy Canadian momma has to say.
- Exercise - find something you love that isn't boring and that brings you joy. Recently our splurge group of girls took to an Orange Theory class (my current obsession) and it was invigorating working out with my friends. They may hate me now, but whatevs.
- Have some quiet time. Just like my kids get the occasional time out, sometime I need to lock myself in the bathroom or my closet to just sit in quiet. Okay, this probably happens more often than it should but hey- I need my space too.
- Figure out a creative outlet- spend your time doing something fun. Put down the phone and create. You will gain absolutely nothing scrolling through another Facebook feed. My creative outlet right now is blogging but I'm going to start getting back into painting. For me, it is a stress relief to write but also painting or taking pictures or scrapbooking.....
- Just lay in the middle of the floor. Did you guys use to do that as kids? Stretching out across the kitchen floor was my favourite thing (my mom kept a really clean kitchen)...sometimes just laying down in the middle of the room makes me chill out.
- Go for a walk- in my case that usually translates to a mall walk. Nonetheless, it is steps.
- Have a glass of wine/beer/cider/tea/coffee/water/milk and read a good book. This is a nightly routine for me.
- Take care of your skin- do a mask once a week, wash that skin every night and find a good moisturizer. I love my nightly face cleansing routine..it calms me.
- Learn something. Again..how much time do we waste playing on our phones? Why not learn something instead? I like the SkillShare site for my learning but also there's wikipedia? Stretch that brain!
- Go for brunch with your friends. Or really do anything with your friends. I know this isn't really just "you"...but a good vent session or talk with my friends can do wonders for my perspective.
- Meditate/Pray- find your peace.

Love it. Having kids is what motivated me to run a half marathon. 🙈 Yay me time!
ReplyDeleteI totally lay on the floor when I'm in freak out mode. It really is somehow soothing! Yep, may have spent a few minutes sprawled out on the floor this weekend.
ReplyDeleteStepping away from the phone is totally important. I can't wait to see some paintings
ReplyDeleteAh that phone!! I sometimes do some stuff on Kahn Academy to learn! Reading is definitely high up there for me time! Lately I've been doing house projects for creativity. That and cooking. Love your list!
ReplyDeleteI like to paint my nails. Something I wish I did more often.
ReplyDeleteI really need to put more effort into my skin/hair. And I really want to try Orange Theory, but there aren't any close to me.
ReplyDeleteLOL...lay in the middle of the floor!! Love it!! Great ideas!!

I love writing! I need to make more time. Good reminder. Also, I don't hate you for that class. It was awesome.
ReplyDeleteI love running it's definitely#1 stress realise for me. My husband even hints when I am a little tense that I need to go run it off. Haha. #5 always ends with me thinking about my never ending to do list, hence defeating the purpose of relaxing.
ReplyDeletelol- I know, right?
ReplyDeleteIt's super relaxing!
ReplyDeletebecause sometimes you need more than just locking yourself in the bathroom

ReplyDeleteI love learn something! We have Lynda.com through work and I have been meaning to check it out and see if there are some courses I could benefit from.
ReplyDeleteDeena, what thoughtful tips. Exercise, go for a walk, go to the bathroom (I would get in the bathtub), find a creative outlet. Genius. But the one I think spoke to me most was apply a face mask. There is something about doing that that is very relaxing and like a mini-escape...I mean get-away.
ReplyDelete[…] the kitchen floor. Remember last when I said I like to do that for some ‘me’ time in my me time list post? Well, it started early. Also, I would like to point out that that was our entire kitchen, my […]
