Christmas Gift Guide

Friday Randoms

I know I've posted a lot about my kids and my...challenges...with them lately, so bare with me. I have some new thoughts.

I was struggling with Lucia, well it looks like we've got that cased for the time being: she has been awesome lately.  It's Willis now that is being a handful.  That kid is so interesting because one minute he can be super helpful and thoughtful and then the next he is screaming at me, calling me a bad mom.  My challenge with Willis right now is that he likes to be right, he has a problem saying sorry and he needs to prove his point at all times and won't listen otherwise.  It is really hard to teach him anything when he is fuming mad.  You guys helped me a lot with Lucia with your encouragements and wise words...so what do you have now for the 9 year old boy who knows everything and has mastered the eye roll?

We had our first minor emergency rush on Wednesday night.  Dan had the kids @ Skip, being little elves and decorating the office.  They had gone to Canadian Tire to pick up something and Lucia was walking with her arms in her winter jacket.  Willis accidentally tripped her and she fell smack on her forehead on the cement.  Blood everywhere.  Dan thought she had broke her arm with her jacket arms being at weird angles...until he realized her arms weren't in the sleeves.  Anyway, he rushed her to the doctor and I was just leaving Costco so I rushed to meet them, having Lucia's health card.  2 stitches later she was all repaired.  What a tough chic she is.  The minute I got alone with Willis he burst out crying, saying it was all his fault.  Poor kiddos.

And because that was pretty much the extent of my week, let's leave it at that.  Come back on Monday for my month in review by the numbers link up.

  1. Oh man! Tough week, sweets. So glad it wasn't a worse injury. And my kids take turns too being 'special'... I find a chat about making good choices with my older one seems to work these days.

oh sweetie, see mama they know in their heart what its about, the little brains are just still growing and struggles abound. Been there for many years and I'm here to tell ya, it gets sooo much better with age, I promise. So glad Lucia is ok and I know you eased Willis and his worry. Happy weekend to you my love, I know its going to be a good one.

  4. Don't ever apologize for being honest. I think it's a breath of fresh air when women are honest about some of the struggles they face as moms, wives, professionals, stay at home, etc. I don't know about Wills, I am not an expert by any means, but maybe when he is in a mood just don't bother engaging with the attitude (I find this hard with H because I want to teach them right/wrong, right then and there but...) and try when he isn't already worked up. He is obviously a sweet boy who cares about his little sister a great deal; actually made me think of my nephew when Anya fell this summer and ended up in ER. Hugs to her and to you during this challenging time.

  5. Parenting is so hard. Conner had such a temper at that age and tended to verbalize (by yelling) every thought in his head. He also had to have the last word and was the master at door slamming. You are an amazing mom who loves them and listens to them, and they know that. It will get better. So sorry about Lucia's poor little noggin. Thomas' similar injury was "inadvertently" caused by Conner too - but I don't remember him being that upset about it :).

  12. Oh man, poor Lucia! Hope she heels quickly. Head injuries are always so scary with all the blood! I wish I had words of wisdom. My almost 4 year old doesn't like to apologize either, so I have been trying to apologize more and talk about how much better it makes me feel when I say sorry. I don't know if it's really working though....
