A Kinda Christmas Fashion Tale

The good, the bad and the beautiful.

[dropcap]Y[/dropcap]ou know a post is not meant to be when you come back to it 800 times and just can't seem to get the right words out.  Normally I do all my blog posts for the week over the course of a weekend (when I'm relaxed, the words flow and also so does the wine.)  But the food post just wasn't happening and no matter how many times I came back to it during the week, I still couldn't find the joy.  And if something isn't working on this blog, I'm not going to force it.  So while I still have a backlog of recipes to review and I still have food prep plans for new recipes, I am permitting myself to take a break and to just ramble.

First thing I wanted to talk about was the new blog design.  So far, I'm loving it! For the curious, I switched over from blogger to wordpress and had Kayla Huffman do everything from the design to the tedious switchover.  Message me if you want the deets, down to the dollar.  The process (for me anyway) was pain-free and I still felt like I had complete creative control.  I plan on hosting a Google Hangout with my blogging buddies in the near future to chat with them and go over the pros and cons of the two platforms.   Why the change, you ask? Well, mostly because I am a life-long learner and I want to be challenging myself to learn knew things.    Also because in one month, I will be celebrating 7 years since the first time I pressed publish and officially became a blogger.  This is what I posted.  Also fitting that  I will be away on my blogaversary, attending my very first blog conference with the first group of ladies I connected with.  I am so excited  to meet some of them for the first time and see Carrie and Lana again.  Also, I'm a bit nervous.  What if  we don't get along? What if they think I'm annoying or boring??

So back to the new blog design.  There are a few things I'm working on ..... notably the top tabs in the menu: if you were wanting to read any of the blogs I follow, they are under Blogs I love.  I am not loving that it is only links and not the updated snippet when they update.  I'm also not done bringing in all the links, so don't fret if you're not there yet!  Second thing is the archives...that is now on the side bar as a drop down menu.  You will also find a follow by email thing which I may or may not get rid of.  Unlike most people, I dislike getting emails about blog posts, mostly because I have a routine and schedule for blog reading and I stick to it.  If I get a post via email, it throws me out of the loop and I end up deleting it, also because I hate clutter in my inbox.   Much like on my kitchen counters.  My goal this month is to update my About Me page. Just in case you were curious.  But more about the behind the scenes blogging stuff on Monday.  Oh ya, if you were following me on Feedly you will have to re-add me into the mix.  Another oddity about me is that I don't read my blogs on Bloglovin', I never fell in love with it as a reader.  I used Feedly instead. Just another FYI.

Also, on the blog front, I did a guest post over on Simply Annie...go check it out and give me your 2, or 3, cents here.

Secondly, I want to share some great moments from this week.  First favourite have been my kids.  Yes, we had a rough go last weekend, but they have been pretty dang cute this week.  One day I had my camera set up to shoot some outfit pictures and they had a blast taking pictures with the remote.  I'll share those hilarious photos next week (and can we celebrate the fact that there are no naked pictures this time. Yes, that happened once. No comment)

I also got this hilarious message from the husband while at Parent Teacher Student Conferences on Thursday night (do any other teachers' cheeks -on the face- hurt after interviews from all the smiling and all the talking??)...anyway, it was St. Patrick's Day and as usual, I forgot the leprechaun shenanigans, so I left Dan in charge with the green candy to lay out, which he did, on everything that was green.  The kids found it after supper and thought they had missed it because camouflage.  They believed until this happened.....

Lastly, I spent a great afternoon with my pal, Abbie on Thursday.  I took some fashion photos for her and then we got really cold (yay for winter #2 in Saskatchewan) and went to Dutch Growers to browse pretty things and try on fun outfits whilst her littlest munchkin slash glow-worm tried escaping.  Abbie and I have actually known each other for a very long time...like probably since I started blogging.  She was a student teacher in my class (she did a unit here and there on le fantôme de l'opéra -I still have some of her stuff) and we've talked off and on since then.  I cannot say how happy I am to have a kindred spirit to spend time with.  She blogs. She's a french high school teacher.  She has great taste and is hilarious.  And if you haven't been reading her blog, then you're really missing out.  She is one of those people who just lifts you right up and makes you feel mighty, energized and motivated.

I had more to say but I'm getting tired and my book is calling.  Hope you have a fantastic weekend!

-D

  5. From personal experience, everyone will love you. It's impossible not to, really :)! I would love to go shopping with you and Abbie - you need to pack her in your suitcase and bring her to Vegas. And your kids taking pictures of themselves is the cutest thing ever. And Dan - made me smile. So much goodness in this post!
