What it's like to be me

So the weekend was good, despite me being sick (spoke to soon last week), the truck breaking down (stupid stupid), the cat peeing on the couch (yuckgross) and the -40 temperatures.  We decided to be fakeAmericans and have Thanksgiving too.  Mostly we just wanted the turkey..and an excuse to watch Home for the Holidays and decorate the house.  All that happened and it was good.  But I think it was also good because the house was so full of life.

In other news, I have been nominated for the Liebster Award by a fellow Style Me Blogger, Alison over at Puppies & Pretties.   Thanks, Alison!
The rules for this award are:
  • Answer the 11 questions that the person that nominated you gave you
  • List 11 facts about yourself
  • Name 11 bloggers to nominate for the Liebster Award that have under 200 followers (I based it on bloglovin followers)
  • Give your nominees 11 questions to answer

I'm going to do a little altering though and not nominate 11 bloggers....I think all the bloggers I read who are new have already done this...
Now, here are Alison's 11 questions for me:

  1. What is your favorite color?   I gravitate to browns/purples and teals...but depending on my mood or season, that will likely change.  So I'm going to go with rainbow.
  2. What is your favorite book/series? When I like a book, I will buy a hard copy and reread it MANY times.  My favourite book is Open House by Elizabeth Berg and my favourite series is The Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon.  You can keep up with what I'm reading on GoodReads.
  3. If you could pick 1 article of clothing that you had to wear every day, what would it be? Leggings...HUE brand, for sure.
  4. Dog or Cat? I would have answered cat, but with Fuzzy going pee crazy this weekend, I will now answer dog.  We have two dogs: Coco and Britney.
  5. What is your favorite movie? It's Cmas season, so Love Actually, hands down.
  6. What is your favorite Trader Joe’s item? What's Trader Joe's?
  7. If you had to pick 1 store to buy all of your clothes from, where would it be? That would be Simons (originated in Québec and is now moving west). I think most of my wardrobe is from there already.
  8. Where was your favorite vacation? We did a road trip this summer to Calgary-Vernon-Seattle and back.  I loved every bit of it.  The kids probably mention that trip every other day, so it was a hit for everyone.
  9. Where do you stand on ugly Christmas sweaters? Yay or nay? Yes please.
  10. What is our favorite post that you have written? Oh, I don't even know. I have 1025 posts under my belt.....if I were to pick a favourite, it would be something from the beginning, when I started blogging, when I had interesting things to say.  Like this one when Willis turned 2.  Or the honest posts when I suck at parenting like this one. Or the one where Dan and I almost got divorced.  Or Lucia's birth story.  Ugh, I there are so many.  I am so grateful that I blog.
  11. Weekly calendar – do you start yours on Sunday or Monday?  I think I am still running on school calendar mode, and that will likely never change.  I go Monday-  Sunday
Now for 11 facts about moi:
1.  I had a bad week.  There was a lot of sick mixed up with even more sad and that cloud followed me around everywhere I went.  I'm glad to be out of that mess.  Retail therapy always works.
2.  My sister lives with me and we have matching red buffalo plaid, flannel pajamas. It is very confusing for our husbands.
3. Willis insists that I cuddle him at night and I LOVE IT!
4. Cuddling is my favourite.  A couple of weekends ago, I may have had a glass too many of wine and snuck downstairs to go jump in bed with Robbie and Kyla. I changed my mind at the door.
5.  I do all my blogging on the weekends and schedule them for the week.
6.  When I get overwhelmed I shut down.  I go all rebel on life and don't do the things I probably should. Like the laundry.  Or answer texts.
7. I have a brother who lives in Calgary. I wish he'd moved here.
8.  I think I should work in a clothing store.
9.  I am counting the days until ball starts again...I miss having a ball game on at night.
10.  Sometimes I crave McDonald's cheeseburgers, but I hate going there because it makes me feel trashy.
11.  I am trying to use my cell less.  I don't bring it into the room with me and leave it in my purse when I'm out.  I had this moment while watching Willis at his swimming lessons when I saw so many parents not even paying attention...and it looked ridiculous and I felt bad for their kids.  It made me want to put mine away

So you survived my answers, here are my questions for my nominees, all gals I grew up with....I'm going to nominate Jordan, Christy, Carmen, Jyl, and Alynne.

Here are my questions for you:
1.  If you could relive one childhood moment, what would it be?
2.  What are you currently reading?
3.  If you could choose a different career, what would you pick?
4.  If you could move to another city, where would you go?
5.  What do you want for Christmas?
6.  Favourite restaurant?
7.  On what do you spend the most money each month?
8.  Most important quality in a friend?
9.  Favourite dessert?
10.  Wine or beer?
11.  Are you good at keeping secrets?

Have fun!
If you're on Instagram, please check out the challenge that Sara and I came up with for December.  Just take a picture and add the hashtag #instaalbum2014.   I love seeing everyone's interpretations of the word.  Also, if I complete this month, then I successfully posted a picture for every day in 2014, which was one of my strange goals. I may have to do a collage or a music montage or something.

Happy Monday and even happier December 1st...that means you can actually get all Christmassy and such, dear Daniel.

  1. Trader Joe's, I think you would love it there! It's a grocery store and has the best stuff there, and you can't find it anywhere else. They have good snacks there. When you come visit me, I'll take you, hehe. I have Trader Joe's and Disneyland ;) Wow, all your blogs done for the week on the weekend, what a good to just implement that on my end...haha!

    1. Disneyland or Disneyworld is on our radar for this next year.........muahhaha, you may be getting a visit from me ;)

  2. With Thanksgiving, etc, I forgot that I had been nominated too but this post reminded me! Now I know what my post tomorrow will be. I enjoyed reading your comments. Thanks for sharing them!

    1. Oh, and I forgot to mention that I'm participating in your Instagram challenge! My first!

  3. Sorry you've been sick. Loved reading all your answers - I want to OWN a clothing store, but I can't seem to convince my hubby to sell the business we have and go into retail.

Sunshine inspired fashion

Today I'm showing you the first outfit I got on my trip to Scotland/England and it just happens to be in one of my favourite colours....yes, yellow.  I also put together some of my fave yellow picks on the interwebs for you in the above link.

I have posted a few of my fave yellow pieces before like the one with the blazer  or the one with the yellow shoes and jacket and then there is also this bag that I got in Vegas last year that always makes me swoon....

Anyway, I'm's outfit is a dress, but you'll have to hop over to the Blended Blog to see it.'s sneak peak.

A blogger meet up in Toronto

It was like a weekend long blind date...... e-Harmony but for friends..... Possibly one of the craziest things I've done..... But I spent the weekend with 10 other women whom I met online. Well, except for my real life bestie on the far right. We have a group of 14 bloggers who have been collabing since the spring of 2014 and what first was simple blog fun has quickly become a sisterhood.   Last year we met in Vegas, this year we settled for Toronto and had 11 members.
Trip highlights include a bus trip with wine and Niagara Falls, a walking tour of downtown Toronto, plenty of great meals, a shopping adventure and rooftop hot tubs at night.  I could go into the details, but for me, the actual trip to Toronto wasn't why I went...the Jays weren't even playing. What brings me the most joy about this trip is the fact that women from all walks of life, all ages (we had 30, 40 and 50 somethings) with a gamut of different interests took a leap of faith and traveled to meet women…

London 1

Sunday/Monday was a blur.   It went from cruising around Toronto (that means shopping) with the little group of Blended Bloggers that were left over to heading to the airport to meet Dan and the kids then to an overnight flight to Dublin and then another 2ish hour flight to London.  At least the kids slept an hour or two, but I couldn't do it.   Currently in zombie mode.   When we got to our hotel (MalMaison Charterhouse Square) we had to nap. Well I had to anyway before I started losing it.   After an hour long family nap, Dan headed to work and I decided to take the kids out on an adventure in the neighbourhood.  We're only 850 metres from St. Paul's Cathedral and I hadn't visited it last time I was here so it was an easy pick. First I had to devise a plan to keep them engaged and because Pokemon is all they ever want, it was an easy bait.  The deal was that if they came and learned something with me, they got to have some Pokemon time in the area. It worked like a …
