3 purple lies

Look way, way up and we'll all call Rusty.

She grows!

It is quite insane to think that a year ago our quest to figure out what was happening with Lucia's growth finally ended with this and it's equally crazy to think how nightly needles for our pint-sized princess have quickly became the norm.
A year later there is no fuss, no problems and rarely any tears when Lucia has her needle.  She knows that it's to help her grow and she is one damn brave and fierce girl (and will proudly tell you that too).
This past week we had one of her checkups that happen every 4 months to monitor her growth.  This is what has changed for Lucia in the past year:

Feb 2013

Feb 2014

In a year, she has put on close to 10 lbs and has grown 6ish inches.  Dr. B said that is the most that she could have grown.  Her dosage will be upped for the next year and she will have a bone scan/xray done (yearly) to make sure that her bones aren't growing too quickly for her body.  The cutest part came when Dr. B asked Lucia if she had any questions.  She looked at him, puzzled and then said: um, I love my Grandma and Grandpa.

I have learned a lot about myself, as a mom, over the course of this year.  It is amazing how much strength and resiliency can be shown in these wee little people we have been blessed with.  Whether it is Willis and his encouragements he gives his sister during her needle, or his ability to distract her when he sees her getting upset or the proud grin Lucia gets as she is getting her needle.  Mommy, look at me, I'm tough.  Didn't even hurt that time, Mommy.  The trials, tribulations and joys you go through as a parent are constant and ever changing and yes, they may rock you to the core at times and make you want to rip out your hair, screaming, but they also show you what love looks like in it's purest form.  Because, I tell you, the minute one of my kids hug me, kiss me or innocently tell me they love me- it makes all worries and fears disappear.  In the end it makes it all worth it, doesn't it?

  1. Great post. Your words at the end are so true.
