What's up Wednesday

Being a parent is about sacrifice.
We give up so much so that our children can be happy.  And that's probably a good thing.  I can't imagine my life without those little rugrats in it, they have brought me so much joy and happiness.
I know that I'm a better person because of them.

Today is the first day of Lent, a 40 day period of sacrifice in preparation for Easter.  It's a time to sacrifice something or work on an area in order to make life better.

I've been doing some thinking about this and have a couple ideas.

What are your ideas?  Can you help me? Will you be doing anything for yourself or those around you during this time?

  1. your blog is surely a daily inspiration - my cup of coffee wouldn't taste the same without it! nope. can't give that up.

  2. I am thinking about sacrificing dining out (this could include purchasing coffee). I am not quite sold on it, so I am interested to hear your ideas (I like the one you told me yesterday as well. . . . I don't want to write it in case I am taking away from the reveal tomorrow :-)

I was also thinking about giving up facebook and pinterest and any unneccessary surfing. This will hopefully free up time to be with my family or time to get some of my nagging projects done. I am quite liking this one, but also like the idea of saving money. . . hmm maybe both?

  3. hmmm... this isn't really my type of thing. But my understanding is that you are supposed to give something up that is actually a sacrifice to you, not something you benefit from (even in a round about way) by giving up.

  4. A homily given by Bishop Blaze a few years ago was really good. He said it wasn't about giving up something but perhaps doing something for the better, giving back. Something like that. I can't quite remember unfortunately but ever since then I don't give something up but thing on how I can be a better person; in my family life, in the community, etc.
